This vinyl release is a bespoke, individually lathe-cut golden 7" record edition, celebrating two years of Macro's subscription service. In its physical form it is exclusively available to Macro's subscribers.

State of Siege is built upon the foundation of a subtle 5-against-4 pattern. In contrast to previous polyrhythmic works by Stefan Goldmann, such as the 'Alluvium' and 'Grand Hemiola' albums, the A-side creates an illusion of a straight 4/4 bass drum pattern.
However, at the level of the underlying grid the cycle is not binary. The resulting pattern is a strangely forceful hybrid: a fast-paced drum & bass-tempo percussion trail, counterintuitively nailed on to a different time line by the techno-like, yet 'actually' odd-metered bass drum.

Composed for Stefan Goldmann's site-specific 2012 concert at Kyoto's Honen-in Temple, 'State of Siege' originally examined distortion's capacity to generate complex emergent harmonic content. The original studio version is now available for the first time as the B-side of this record, while also serving as the foundation of the A-side's polymetric revision of 2026.
