Alfonso Bottone lives a double life, and both halves make complete sense once you hear his music. By day he's up at 30,000 feet, working as a flight attendant. In the hours between, he's in the studio, making the kind of deep house that feels like it was built from memory rather than technique. Born in Naples, shaped by everything in between: this is what a truly multicultural ear sounds like when it stops trying to explain itself. Out on June 12th via Apparel Music, a label that's been home for long enough that calling it a collaboration feels right, this is family. We Were Together is his latest chapter, and one of his most personal yet. The title track opens like a quiet confession, unhurried, the kind of groove that doesn't ask for your attention so much as it already has it. Le Beau Bain drifts somewhere between a Balearic afternoon and a Frankie Knuckles cassette left in the sun, warm, a little melancholy, entirely its own thing. Then The Own Rules closes with that Chicago-Detroit soul Alfonso grew up on: honest, deep, no shortcuts. Three tracks. Napoli, Paris, Chicago, Detroit, and somehow, just one sound.
